Topic Discussion 2: Facebook's Privacy Issues [by Ho Zhuan Han 1112700654]

There are so many social networks, Facebook is consider one of the most popular sites.

According to AP-CNBC poll, more than half of those surveyed, 59 percent, said that they had little to no trust that Facebook would keep their information private. 54 percent of the survey, the study found that there are 1,004 respondents would not “feel safe at all” when purchasing goods and services through the world’s largest social network. No matter how Facebook does, the privacy concerns still the biggest threat to user’s trust. Facebook has become a worldwide photo identification database, which can make your privacy expose to the world. Other words, we have no privacy once we started using it. We only can prevent but not really protect all our privacy.

However, most of the users do not quit Facebook even though we know about this issue. We are still continue using it and share our most personal information. The social network keeps on growing. It is still one of the most popular sites for the internet users for sharing personal information, photos or doing business. As Facebook users have increased, it has no longer be a platform for us to contact or communicate with others. As a student, we cannot deny that it is easier for us to share opinions or discuss all the projects and assignments when we cannot get together. So, it is still very important for me right now and I am still will continue using it as long as it is useful.

  1. "we have no privacy once we started using it. We only can prevent but not really protect all our privacy." Basically, there's no turning back once we started to use it. Even though we set our status or photos or whatever things to be view to friends only, yet our name and some basic information that we set to public is enough for people to identify us in order to get other information with some other tools or software. We just have use in our risk. Just a little sharing =)

  2. I'd like to say that sometimes we people must also differentiate what to share and what not to share in social networks. This is because at the beginning of joining them, we've all agreed with the term and condition as well as the privacy which is going to be exposed. Therefore it is our responsibility to bear what we do over there. Everything have pros and cons, like all of us said, we discuss assignments at FB. So it's common that everyone have one FB account because it's the trend these days. Therefore, we must be smart to share what we are supposed and not supposed to. Think before we act ;)

  3. ''we have no privacy once we started using it. We only can prevent but not really protect all our privacy.'' I agree with your point. That have a new about when we delete an app on Facebook, doesn't delete your data from their system. It is dangerous when we start touch the social network. We only can pay more attention in what we do on the network.
