Are you aware of this? Would you still stay on Facebook after knowing this?
I'm always paying attention to this issue as I think privacy is really important to all of us. Everyone has their right to privacy, respect your private personal life, but you must also respects the rights of other people too.
Some people described Facebook as "the end of privacy". I think not only Facebook, but also other social networks as well. There are many smartphone apps for you to share your things with your friends nowadays. Many of the users linked these apps with their Facebook, which means that what they're sharing are going to appear on their Facebook too. Moreover, there're a lot of people who likes to "check in" wherever they go. This is actually dangerous, especially for the females. Sharing your location data is highly discouraged. Others can get your latest information easily just by viewing your Facebook profile. Who knows some may secretly monitoring you, even your friends? People will think that "you willing to share, we willing to see." If you set your profile as 'public', it is basically means that you're revealing everything to almost every Internet users in the world. However, this doesn't means that others have the right to 'share' your things publicly without your permission.
Here is an article which states that Facebook tracks your moves even if you log out: http://soshable.com/facebook-tracking/
Yes, I will still stay on Facebook. It has become parts of my life, and my online newspaper as well, but of course, with a lot of fake news and rumors. It is a good platform for us to communicate with our friends. We can easily make or plan for gathering. We can always have discussion via Facebook, with no limits of time and number of people, and it's free! I can still connect with my primary and secondary school classmates via Facebook and I even found a long-lost-kindergarten-mate that have not been met in the past 10+ years. And of course, like others, I'm having discussion groups and consultation groups in Facebook. In other way, we can also keep our memories like pictures, videos or conversations between you and your friend in this virtual world.
What I can do now is just...less posting, putting less personal information, set the privacy to only friends or custom. Well, there's also some settings that are fixed to public, like the cover photos and your current profile picture. Other than that, everyone in my Facebook friend list is those that I know in real life. Although we know the disadvantages of Facebook but we're still using it. This is what we chose by ourselves. This is a bit contradicted but... this is life!

ReplyDeleteThis issue might cause the crime. For me ,I strongly disagree my friend and family sharing the location data because recently got issue about tracking. This is dangerous situation that can threaten your life.Prevent better cure this is what we can do for this moment...
Good say chialing! (Y) Check-in is sometimes fun, yet dangerous because we don't know that some friends might just betray you!
Deleteya Mich.T =D we must always becareful...
DeleteFor some people, the "check-in" function seems fun and some might use it to make it as a way to keep as memory, e.g gathering with friends. They can tag their friends and their location. It is one of the way to remember the good moments as well. The simplest way to reduce the risk is "check-in" when you're about to leave that place, this is what many of my friends did.
DeleteSomething that I also found out that could prove Facebook is really tracking on us is when I login into a different pc at a different location, Facebook literally 'block' me because they say that the device I used wasn't recognise before. So I was given some questions to answer in order for me to login.
ReplyDeleteYes. I've experienced this for few times too. I remembered that when I wanted to login to my Facebook account by using my sister's smartphone at foreign country during the holiday, Facebook blocked me from logging in. I have to use a pc to log in, to use my Facebook account. This makes that I can't even login to my Facebook during the holiday at the foreign country until I have a computer to answer some given questions to unblock my account.
Delete"Some people described Facebook as "the end of privacy". I think not only Facebook, but also other social networks as well."
ReplyDeleteI agree with this as nowadays we have other social networks like Twitter and Google+ but Facebook is still dominating among them. Thus, all we can do is to be aware of what we post and of people who are "friends" with us on Facebook.
Yes. We should accept and add only the "friends" that we know in real life. But there're still many people using the social networks to get to know new friends as well. This might be dangerous because you don't know their personality in the real life. They might use fake identity on this virtual world...
DeleteYes Swee Li, we have the same thought on " we have the total right to make our own choice." I always believe that is us ourselves who decide
ReplyDeletewhat to share and what not. I also do agree with you that check in our location is very dangerous, but in the same time I think its a good function thought to share good places with friends. Just that youngsters nowadays misusing it to grab attention or to show off to others.
One must be very clear on what is he or she doing. They themselves should be responsible on what they did. And, yes, "check-in" might be a good function in some way. People likes to "share" whatever things they like. As the saying goes "Sharing is caring". But it's even better and safer if you "check-in" in some *smarter* ways.
