Topic Discussion 3: Internet Censorship [by Chee Jenn Yi 1112702243]

"Who regulates the Internet?"

It's indeed a tough question as Internet is a worldwide system of interconnected computer networks and to actually assign who to regulate the Internet globally, it's a another tough decision to make. So my answer is, no one. However, there are organizations and groups out there who work behind the scene to keep everything running almost-smoothly for us, Internet users. Here are a few examples of main Internet regulation entities http://websearch.about.com/od/whatistheinternet/a/internetrules.htm

Personally, I think there should be Internet censorship because people living in the society these days tend to abuse it for personal pleasure for example, accessing porn sites, finding ways to hack another network etc. However, there should be a limit for Internet censorship because after all, the Internet ought to be free for everyone.

  1. I second that! It is so true that there must be a limit and the censorship must not be too excessive. Let's take an example of People's Republic of China, Iran, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Syria, and Bangladesh where they block Facebook, because their government restrict the citizen due to political issues and content judged as anti-Islamic and containing religious discrimination.

  2. Yes. I agree with you! There should be limits to everything. Many people are abusing the Internet nowadays. There are too many of negative contents such as hate speech and violence that can be found on the Internet.
